On July 21, 2024, President Joe Biden announces to the world that he is dropping out of the long anticipated presidential race of 2024 with around 100 days left until Election Day. Shockwaves rippled through the internet at this unprecedented event, but the surprises didn’t stop there. Vice President Kamala Harris declares that her campaign for the presidency has just begun. Within a neck breaking 24-hour period, she managed to raise over $80 million dollars in donations—60 percent of which is from first time donors. X (formerly Twitter) users were quick to also show their support. The hashtag #Kamala2024 is trending with people of different ages, races, and political beliefs tweeting their “understanding of the assignment” to vote for her. Click here to read the full story.

Earlier this year, a video on the YouTube channel Arlette Amuli was posted of a group of women vying for one man’s attention. The series is called “Pop the Ballon or Find Love.” If the individual or the group members themselves pop their balloons, it eliminates those specific people from the game. If there is a balloon remaining, then a match is made. This particular episode stirred up some controversy because of the way the man and the women reacted negatively to one another. While there were memes and laughs to go around, this type of content is problematic. I am proud of my blackness. I don’t regret where I’m from or the way I was born. But I haven’t always been like this. There were times where I questioned why I was brought into a world that despised me. I would watch the news, see the latest tomfoolery on social media, and see the comments cursing me and anyone who looks like me for ever being born. I questioned if being Black was as much of a blessing as some made it out to be. But then I reflected on my experiences throughout my life and all the things I still have yet to accomplish and realize something. There is a reason for everything. I was born a Black woman because it is what was meant for me. I also came to realize that being a Black woman comes with certain traits that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
